Caribbean cruise itinerary: a 9-day plan with port days

Miami, three ports and three sea days, with a back-aboard time on every port day.

This is a sample plan, made by Fingerpost for two example travelers on a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise from Miami, who wanted markets, a beach morning and local food over big excursions, and a steady pace. The ship times are example times; your cruise line sets the real ones.

Fingerpost plans cruise port days. In the setup interview you pick “On a cruise” and paste or type your ship’s itinerary: the ports, the arrival and sailing times, and whether each stop is a tender or a dock. Nothing you paste is saved; you check the rows you end up with.

Your plan then builds each port day around a “back aboard by” time: 90 minutes before all aboard at a tender port, 60 minutes at a docked port. All aboard is assumed to be 30 minutes before sailing unless you change it (30, 45 or 60). Sea days stay on the ship. On a port day, if notifications are on, June sends a reminder two hours before all aboard that names the port and gives the back-aboard time. Your own plan will be built from your answers, so it would not look like this one. Prices, hours and port facts below were checked in October 2026 and can change, so confirm them before you sail.

The plan, day by day

Open any day to see every stop, with times, prices and sources.

Day 1 Fly in, settle into Brickell Land, taxi to the hotel, an easy wander by the water, one good Cuban dinner. About 1.5 miles of walking, early night before the ship.
  1. Getting there

    Airport to hotel

Rideshare is the easy way in — the journey takes between 15 and 25 minutes depending on traffic and costs between $20 to $25 to Brickell.

    About $28
  2. 3:00 pmStay

One night in Brickell / Downtown

YVE Hotel Miami, Biscayne Blvd — across from Bayfront Park, about a mile from the port. The average price for the MIA-to-Brickell ride is $27 so it's an easy base either way. Room rate runs $140/night ($140 total for the one night).

YVE Hotel Miami · 146 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FLAbout $140
  3. 4:00–6:00 pmFree time

    Afternoon by the water

Walk off the flight along Biscayne Bay. Bayfront Park is right across from most downtown hotels, or wander into Bayside Marketplace for a browse and a drink with a view of the harbor.

    Free
  4. 7:00–8:30 pmEat

    Cuban dinner in Brickell

Marabu Restaurant at Brickell City Centre — coal-fired Cuban cooking, average price for dinner without drinks is about $45 per person. Reservations taken.

Day 2 Embarkation day: Miami A slow morning in the city, then down to PortMiami to board. All aboard 15:30 — nothing scheduled after the terminal.
  1. 10:00 am–12:00 pmFree time

    Last Miami morning

Check out and leave bags with the bell desk, then a last coffee and walk — Bayfront Park or a stroll down Biscayne Blvd.

    About $15
  2. 12:30–1:00 pmGetting there

    Hotel to PortMiami terminal

Taxi or rideshare — a 10-minute drive to the port with a pool overlooking Biscayne Bay is typical from downtown hotels. Aim to be at the terminal by 13:00.

    About $20
  3. Note

    Board by 15:30

Ship docks in Miami, dock (not tender). All aboard 15:30 — nothing else planned today after the terminal.

  4. Stay

    Aboard for the cruise

Your ship for the next 7 nights — included in your cruise fare.

Day 3 Sea day First of three sea days. No port, no plan — just the ship.
  1. Free time

A day with nowhere to be

Sleep in, find a deck chair, try the pool before it fills up. Check the daily program for a trivia hour, a cooking demo or a talk — whatever's on, no need to chase it.

    Free
Day 4 Cozumel: market and a beach afternoon Tender in, taxi to San Miguel for the market and lunch, then a beach club for the afternoon. About 1 mile of walking, back aboard by 3:00 (ship clock).
  1. Note

    Tender ashore, all aboard 16:30

Ship arrives 08:00, tenders in. All aboard 16:30 ship time (same as Cancun local time here). First tenders ashore take a while to clear — don't rush the first one.

  2. 8:45–9:15 amGetting there

Tender to pier, taxi into San Miguel

Depending which pier you're assigned, downtown can be a 2.5–3 mile walk with no shade — not for this trip. A taxi runs $5-8 taxi or 25-minute walk from International Pier, a touch more from Puerta Maya. Only skip the taxi if you dock at Punta Langosta, which sits right in town.

    About $16
  3. 9:30–10:30 amVisit

    Mercado Municipal

San Miguel's real market — stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, island seafood and meats, plus local handicrafts and everyday goods, a few blocks inland from the waterfront. Go before noon, it gets warm and fishy later.

  4. 10:30–11:15 amEat

    Lunch at the market loncherías

Small food counters inside the market do tacos, fish and local plates for a few dollars each — Taqueria Molina is the largest, meandering through several stalls in the center of the market.

  5. 11:30–11:45 amGetting there

    Taxi to the beach

A short ride to a beach club near the water. Flat fare, agree it before you get in.

    About $12
  6. 11:45 am–2:30 pmFree time

    Beach afternoon

Del Mar Latino or the El Cid beach area — beach at your doorstep if you want to feel the sun and sea breeze without going far. Loungers and a bar on site; no entry fee but expect to spend on drinks.

    About $20
  7. 2:45–3:00 pmGetting there

    Back aboard

Taxi back to the pier, tender to the ship. Be back by 15:00 to clear the tender queue before all aboard.

Ship arrives 07:00, tenders in to George Town. All aboard 14:30 — this is a short call, keep the day simple.

  2. 7:45–8:00 amGetting there

    Taxi to Seven Mile Beach

A one way trip from George Town to the central section of Seven Mile Beach typically runs around 27 to 35 US dollars per taxi — split that two ways, or take a shared van for around $8–10 per person.

    About $16
  3. 8:00–11:30 amFree time

    Morning on the sand

Seven Mile Beach proper — white sand, calm water, public access points about every quarter mile. The middle and northern stretches are quieter than the resort-lined south end.

  4. 11:30 am–12:15 pmEat

    Lunch at a beach bar

Any of the beach bars along West Bay Road do grilled fish, jerk chicken and cold drinks, roughly $15–20 per person.

    About $35
  5. 12:30–1:00 pmGetting there

    Back aboard

Taxi back to the George Town terminal, tender to the ship. Leave the beach by 12:30 — all aboard is 14:30 and this is a tender port, so the 90-minute buffer matters.

    About $16
Day 6 Falmouth: historic walk and the market Dock port, the whole town is a short stroll off the gangway. Market, old Georgian streets, jerk chicken for lunch. Under 1.5 miles of walking, sunset is 5:54pm but you'll be back aboard before that.
  1. Note

    Historic Falmouth walking loop

Walk from the pier into Water Square, then south past the 1817 Falmouth Courthouse, up to St. Peter's Anglican Church (1795), and loop back via Market Street — flat, about 45 minutes.

    Free
  7. 4:15–4:30 pmGetting there

    Back aboard

A short walk back through the port complex. Be aboard by 16:30, 60 minutes before the 17:30 all aboard.

Day 7 Sea day Second sea day. Sunset over open water tonight if you catch the rail around 5:50pm.
  1. Free time

Another day with nowhere to be

A late breakfast, a book on deck, maybe the pool before lunch. Check the daily program for anything that catches your eye — nothing is required.

    Free
Day 8 Sea day Last sea day before Miami. A good one for packing before the crowds do it all at once tomorrow.
  1. Free time

Pack a little, relax a lot

Worth doing a first pass on packing today rather than tomorrow morning. Otherwise, a deck chair, a show, or a last swim before disembarkation.

    Free

  1. Note

Dock 7:00, off by about 9:00

Ship docks in Miami at 7:00. Disembarkation and customs usually take an hour or two depending on your assigned group — plan to be off by around 9:00.

  2. 9:15–9:40 amGetting there

    Terminal to Miami airport

Rideshare or taxi — the average route price from Miami Airport to Brickell is $30, with an average travel time of 20 minutes, the reverse trip from downtown/the port runs similarly.

    About $30

Good to know

  • Which time counts. The time on your ship’s daily program is the only one that matters. The “back aboard by” lines on this page are the buffer we plan around: 90 minutes before all aboard when you tender, 60 minutes when you walk off a docked ship.
  • Tender or dock. This sample assumes tenders in Cozumel and Grand Cayman and a dock in Falmouth. Cozumel has several piers and many ships dock there, so ask your cruise line which applies to your sailing.
  • Seven Mile Beach is not walkable from the tender pier. Taxi fares in the Cayman Islands are set by the government, and the official CI:GO app shows them for your route.
  • Beaches in Cayman. The shoreline between the tide marks is public. Roped-off chairs in front of hotels are not, so use a public access point.
  • Time zones. Miami, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Jamaica are on the same clock in January, so there is no time-zone math.
  • Check before you go. Restaurant hours and prices, the Albert George Market and port arrangements change. Confirm them the week you sail.
